Our Befriending Service is for older people who may feel socially isolated and lonely.
Who is the service for?
Lambeth residents aged over 55 who live alone, although some of the people we support do live with family.
What does the service do?
Befriending provides a person with a valuable link to the outside world and often acts as a gateway to further support and social activity. We match people with a suitable volunteer who visits for about an hour a week.
- It allows people to have fun, enjoy social interaction and maintain social skills
- It reduces loneliness and isolation by encouraging companionship and positive relationships
- It nurtures communication by allowing people to share worries and concerns, thereby reducing anxiety and depression
What happens after the referral?
We will contract the person to make an appointment to visit them for an assessment, we will then match them with a volunteer.
